ABF in Action: Noelhy Delgadillo, Office Manager

Each month, we introduce you to a member of our dedicated team—the people working behind the scenes (and out in the desert!) to protect the Park, inspire visitors, and connect our community to California’s largest state park.
This month, we’re featuring Noelhy Delgadillo, Office Manager, whose work helps keep ABF running smoothly behind the scenes. From supporting donors and managing finances to keeping operations organized (and all of us sane), Noelhy plays an essential role in helping us advance our mission every single day.
What does being ABF’s Office Manager involve on a day-to-day basis?
Being ABF’s Office Manager means wearing a lot of hats—handling finances, supporting our team, assisting donors, and keeping our systems organized. Every day looks a little different, but my goal is always to make sure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly so the rest of the team can focus on the mission.
What’s something behind the scenes you do that people might not realize supports the Park?
A big part of my role is making sure donations are processed accurately and that our financial records are in order. It might not be visible, but that work directly supports funding for programs, conservation, and everything that helps protect the Park.
How does your role help keep ABF’s team and mission running smoothly?
I help create structure and organization—whether it’s financial tracking, internal processes, or supporting staff needs. When things are organized behind the scenes, it allows our team to focus on outreach, education, and conservation work without interruption.
What’s the most rewarding part of being the first point of contact for visitors, donors, or volunteers?
The most rewarding part is building connections. I love being able to welcome people, answer questions, and help them feel connected to the Park. Sometimes a simple conversation turns into someone becoming a long-term supporter.
How do you see your work connecting to ABF’s mission of protecting and inspiring stewardship of Anza-Borrego?
Even though my role is behind the scenes, everything I do helps support the bigger picture. By keeping operations strong and organized, I’m helping ensure that the programs and efforts that protect Anza-Borrego can continue to grow and make an impact.
Can you share a favorite memory of helping a visitor or supporter that really stuck with you?
One moment that stuck with me was helping a visitor who had never been to the desert before. After giving them a few recommendations, they came back so excited about what they experienced—it reminded me how special this place is and how meaningful it is to help others discover it.
What’s the hardest part of working behind the scenes, and how do you stay motivated?
The hardest part is that the work isn’t always visible. But I stay motivated because I know how important it is. I see how everything connects, and that keeps me grounded in knowing that what I do truly matters.
What do you wish people knew about the impact of good organization and support in nonprofit work?
Good organization is the foundation of everything. When things are running efficiently behind the scenes, it allows the mission to move forward stronger, faster, and with more impact.
What’s your favorite place in the Park to go when you want to slow down and enjoy the desert?
One of my favorite things is just finding a quiet spot to take in the views and the stillness of the desert. Growing up here, those peaceful moments never get old.
Why does protecting Anza-Borrego matter to you personally?
I grew up in Borrego Springs—this place is home. The Park surrounds my everyday life, my family, and my memories. Protecting Anza-Borrego isn’t just part of my job, it’s personal. I’m passionate about preserving it so future generations can experience the same beauty I’ve been lucky enough to grow up with.
