Interpretive Hike: A Cahuilla History of Coyote Canyon

Join us for a guided walk through Coyote Canyon where we’ll explore the cultural significance of the area from a Cahuilla perspective, identify plants with historical and medicinal uses, and take in stunning views at Santa Catarina Vista.

Hike Leader: Andrew James Pittman is a citizen of the Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeño Indians. He is Nauhañavitcem, commonly known as Segundo. His clan is one of five Cahuilla lineages that occupied Coyote Canyon. Andrew is an advocate for the protection of the natural world, reconnecting to traditional lifeways and elevating Indigenous voices.
