Five Ways to Support Anza-Borrego Desert State Park This Earth Day
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is vast, resilient, and alive with stories written across 650,000 acres of desert landscape. From sweeping badlands and hidden palm oases to delicate wildflowers and dark night skies, it’s a place that needs us to care about it.
Here are five meaningful ways you can support Anza-Borrego Desert State Park this Earth Day and all year long.
1. Explore with Care
One of the most powerful ways to support the Park is simply by how you experience it.
Follow Leave No Trace. Stay on designated trails and roads. Avoid stepping on wildflowers or disturbing fragile desert soil, which can take decades, or longer, to recover. Keep wildlife wild by observing from a distance and remember that dogs are not allowed on trails or in wildflower areas.
Every step matters here. Thoughtful visitation helps ensure that future generations can experience the same beauty you see today.
2. Become an ABF Angel
As the official nonprofit partner of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, we work year-round to protect the land, support science, and connect people to the desert.
Becoming a recurring monthly member—an ABF Angel—is one of the most impactful ways to support this work.
Monthly giving provides steady, reliable support that helps fund conservation, education programs, and critical Park initiatives. It’s how we stay ready to protect what matters before it’s at risk.
For as little as $10 a month, you can show up for the desert every month.
3. Learn the Desert’s Story
The more you understand the desert, the more you see.
Join a guided hike, attend a lecture, or explore one of our many educational programs. Learn how plants survive extreme conditions, how wildlife navigates this landscape, and how human history is woven into the desert’s story.
An informed visitor becomes a steward, and stewardship is what this landscape needs most.
4. Shop with Purpose
Every purchase at our State Park Stores directly supports the Park. Shop online or in person at one of our two stores.
From field guides and outdoor gear to locally inspired art and gifts, these items do more than commemorate your visit, they give back. Proceeds help fund education programs, conservation efforts, and visitor experiences.
It’s a simple way to turn something you love into something that lasts.
5. Share the Story
Anza-Borrego is often overlooked, but it shouldn’t be.
This Earth Day, share what makes this place special. Post your photos. Tell your story about how much you love this place. Invite others to experience the desert with the same care and respect.
Awareness leads to appreciation, and appreciation leads to protection.
A Park Worth Showing Up For
The desert doesn’t always get attention. But its resilience holds immense ecological and cultural value, and it needs our care now more than ever.
This Earth Day, choose one action. Then another.
Become an ABF Angel. Explore with intention. Share its story.
Because protecting Anza-Borrego isn’t just about a single day, it’s about showing up, again and again, for a place that gives so much.
